Hi,
I'm just recovering from the worst saw throat in my life, at 32 years. Started off as week long of headaches, body aching and fever. These symptoms lessened but then one lymph gland became swollen and eventually I developed this incredibly saw throat. The worst of it lasted about 4 days, where I was getting like 3hrs of sleep a night, drooling on my pillow, and trying to avoided swallowing by regularly spitting saliva in a cup. Even trying to get a sip of water down my throat was torture. The doctor gave me a 12 day course of penicillin at 2gram/day. My throat looked awful (even the doctor commented himself :). There was a (6mm) white lump protruding from a side wall of my throat and some white spots on the other side of my throat. My uvula was also painfully swollen, and it was difficult to breath with my head turned even slightly. Its now day 13 since the first indication of throat pain (4 days since antibiotics) and the swelling/pain has improved to the point were I don't dread to eat food. Although, some white spots still remain in the throat. I never asked the doctor what exactly I had (partly because of my limited speech ability at the time), and so I am wondering if this was a bacterial throat infection like strep throat or something even worse ?
I didn't have a cough or runny noise, nor did I have much of a temperature during the saw throat period. Could I have initially picked up a virus (causing the fever, headache, and body ache), then maybe causing my immune system to go in a weakened state, and allow infection of this nasty nasty bacteria ?
