   Dr. Tseng Visit - Red Veins (Eye & Vision board)

17th August 2007
[QUOTE=np1981;2210449]Hello,

Your problem sounds a lot like mine. I went to see an Opthalmologist about 3 months ago because I was suffering from really bad burning itchy (and red) eyes for a long time (2+ years). Allergy drops or lubricating drops never worked for me at all.

My tear production is below average, but the main problem he suggested was due to me having naturally big eyes. As a result, my lower eyelid does not cover up enough of my eye in general, and that I should consider eyelid surgery (a permanent lateral tarsorraphy) to correct the problem. It all sounded logical to me because my lower eyelid did tend to sit lower down and leave a gap between the coloured part of the eye and the eyelid margin.

After all I had tried I was becomming desperate to try something so I decided to do it (In the UK it costs around £1,500 to do it privately or wait 5 months on the National Health Service. I couldnt wait that long so I decided to do it ASAP). Its been 3+ weeks since the operation, at the moment my eyes are still sore so its hard to tell if its worked. It has made a cosmetic difference but at the moment I'm still waiting to see if it has worked. I'm told it takes around 6 weeks for the eyes to settle down.

Good luck whatever you choose to do. I'd suggest you exhast all other possibilites before considering surgery - I saw this a a last resort personally.

Sorry for bumping this and you probably won't respond but I figure it's worth a try. My situation is very very similar to what yours was. I've had red eyes ever since i can remember and everything I've tried hasn't worked (artificial tears, patanol, lid scrubs, etc etc). I also have naturally big eyes almost exactly as you describe, there is a space between the colored part and bottom eyelid.

Can you by any chance tell me what your experience was with this surgery?
