Yasmin= skin worse?! What to do next... (Birth Control board)

26th April 2006
I've been on Yasmin for 6 months now. I love it, EXCEPT I am starting to think it has made my skin a lot worse. I have always had oily and breakout-prone skin since high school (Im now 23) but its a been minor/moderate issue. Its never been flawless. However, I went on the Nuva Ring around Aug/Sept. of '05 and experienced some MAJOR cystic acne from it. I was horrified and after 2 months of it not improving I switched to Yasmin.
I have always had trouble with birth control agreeing with my body. Mostly, it leaves me bloated, crampy, and makes my periods worse instead of better. Starting in high school, I have tried Ortho Tri-Cyclen (briefly), Ortho-Novum 777, and Mircette (I think). I tried seasonale for 2 months last summer and was constipated, bloated and had break-through bleeding for 75% of that time.
Yasmin is the only thing that works with my body thus far. It makes my periods light, my stomach stays flat and I love it for those reasons.
However, I am starting to believe it is solely responsible for slowly wreaking havoc on my skin, and I thought it was supposed to do the opposite. Ive noticed my skin is oily 20 minutes after i wash it these past few months. I am breaking out all the time and it is leaving scars becaues the breakouts are so continuous and in the same spots all the time. I break out symmetrically, too (in the same place on either side of my face). And on my back and chest sometmies which has never happened. Its strange.
Like I said, its been 6 months, so Im sure its reached its full effect by now. However, I am torn. I wasnt sure to post this on the acne board or here, because it is not just about my face...I really do love the pill otherwise for the other things it does, the only one thats ever worked with me. I have a derm appt. tomorrow and don't know whether I should quit this pill and try something new, or go off it for good...I dont know. Im scared if I go off it that I will regret it because I wont find anything better.
Does anyone have any recommendations re: what to do? Has anyone experienced worse skin with Yasmin, or does anyone have a pill that has helped their skin and has also worked with your body well? Im torn.
