I too have sleep apnea. I have a really hard time sleeping with the mask. I quit using it for awhile, but now am back to trying it again.
I suspected that you did based on the gerd, stress, and anxiety issues--that's why I offered my experiences. Am glad you're one of the lucky ones to get treatment.

My Gerd has gotten better. All of the GERD started when I started taking blood pressure medicine. But none of the doctors think that is why. What did you mean that oatmeal solved your bp med problem?
If your gerd started when you started taking bp meds, I would very much suspect the bp meds! The docs don't know or don't want to know the side effects, believe me. Have you checked your drug sheets to see if gerd/heartburn is listed? I've seen them on some of my sheets. I was able to function with untreated sleep apnea, but the sleeping disturbances I experienced while on bp meds are impossible to describe. I wouldn't be surprised if the bp meds are aggravating your sleep disorder and causing the gerd.
What I meant by the oatmeal is that I haven't had gerd since going on my cpap UNTIL I started taking Norvasc. Fortunately, someone on the bp board told me that she experienced heartburn while taking Norvasc. Orginally, I took my dose in the am but it made me sleepy so I switched my dose to bedtime. It was then, that I started having the heartburn for the first time since cpap. Since I didn't have heartburn when I took the Norvasc with my oatmeal for breakfast, I simply moved my oatmeal to bedtime so I could take my bp med with it. Not everything is that simple, but in this case it worked. Now, if I could only find a bp med that didn't incapacitate me but lowered my pressures!
Laurie, I do hope you continue to work with the cpap...it took me awhile to find a mask I could sleep with (I can still "feel" one mask that felt like it put an arrow thru the middle of my forehead!" ) There are lots of options out there, including nasal pillows, which a friend of mine swears by...I haven't experienced moodiness or depression (due to sleep deprivation at least:rolleyes: ) since I've had my cpap--and I'm almost afraid to sleep without it whether it be for naps or for nightime.
Take care.
