   Can't lose weight (Diabetes board)

23rd February 2005
Avandia is known to cause weight gain, and so are some blood pressure meds. I am diabetic and had lost over 65 pounds once i was taken off avandia. Then more recently(last month) i gained 10 lbs in less than ten days due to norvasc for bp.

About three yrs ago i started seeing a really good dietitian and she has helped me immensely. I was put on a 1200 cal. diet, i track every morsel that goes into my mouth and exercise for at least 30 mins.

It is difficult to lose weight, but it can be done. Have you tried to eat the six small meals daily. That helped me avoid the lows and helped me lose the weight.I use the lifestyle change of five veggies daily(at least) and stick to portion control.

Maybe you should found out if some of your meds impede your weight loss efforts and see about making changes. Good luck and i hope you find an answer.

Thank you everyone for all the support and good advice. First of all, I am going to buy the book by Joyce Boykin, today! It sounds like a great , helpful book.
I do try and eat a healthy variety of foods and do take a vitamin supplement. I am using the Slimfast diet for breakfast and lunch and eating a light dinner. I do not eat in between meals. I know I have a lot of work to do as I was a terrible junk food eater. I do 30 min. of walking on the treadmill every day, this should help too.
I also am on Avandia and have gained more weight since my dosage was increased to 8mg. I am hoping to eliminate this drug by changing my eating habits. I also take Norvasc, we'll see how much this change will help my BP.
Again, thanks for all your support, I will keep you informed on my progress.
