Hey all,
Haven't checked in for a few days and thought I would reply to this thread again...
Slippery, thx for explaining. I thought your previous reply was directed at me, but after you explained, I now see it wasn't, therefore I obviously took it the wrong way. I know you meant & continue to mean well. That's all that really matters in the end. :)
Arg, I apologize if my point of view came across the wrong way. Let me clarify... I am a fan of Sub. And if you're in a position that you just can't or don't want to get off Opiates yet, such as work/family/timing doesn't permit, Sub is 100x better than taking pills all day everyday. So, with that said, you've made a great leap towards the ultimate goal and that in itself is something to be proud of. Continue working with your doctor and getting the support you need and I have no doubts you can overcome the final step one day, which is to taper off the Sub & not rely on opiates anymore. Personally, I advocate staying on for only a few weeks, but everybody is different and if you need to be on for much longer, it's way better than taking pills everyday. With the right planning & preparation, you'll be just fine.
I just wanted to give my input on Sub so people aren't blindsided when it comes time to get off it. Like I mentioned before, my doc was naive about getting off Sub. He honestly told me (and I quote) "it will be about 10% as hard as it would have been to get off Vicodin directly". So I figured I would give a heads up about it in the hopes that nobody else who reads this is fooled into thinking it will be a cake walk to get off. It's not easy, but it is absolutely doable. I'm now on day 30 off of Sub and I feel great. I'm not 100%, but the depression is mostly gone. Now all that remains is a bit less motivation than I used to have, as well as the occasional night of tossing & turning for several hours.
Hockey39, congrats on quitting! What you're feeling is normal. I remember day 4 being my first "bad" day after I quit Sub. It lasts for several days, then you'll start feeling occasional relief here & there. You're going to need about 3 weeks (give or take) behind you before you start feeling good again. You're going to feel unmotivated, depressed, and weak. That's normal & artificial, so don't be fooled into thinking it's permanent. Sleep will suck for the next few weeks. There's not much you can do about it. Some people take a few different things to help, such as Klonidine, Trazod, Neurontin (not sure about the spelling of those) and a couple others. You can ask your doc what he recommends. I took Ambiens for a few nights here & there, although some people caution against getting too comfy with them. I was careful not to. Good luck and keep posting, it will help significantly.
