Ultram Help (Addiction & Recovery board)

27th January 2007
Bob,
I think you got some good information on here. This caught my attention because my doctor offered it to my last week. Ultram IS a synthetic narcotic and IS habit forming. So, if you have problems with addiction, anything habit forming should be carefully thought out. My sponsor and several other members of my group have had a problem with this drug. I'm 1 1/2yrs clean and sober and facing my 3 spinal surgery. I truly feel your pain.
Those are the facts. Now, my advice. Be honest w/your doctor. Make your concerns known. You have the right to say no,I can't take that. Most doctors are more than willing to sit w/ you a come up w/a plan. Heck, mine said it was refreshing not to have someone in just for the pills. On the same note, you do not have to suffer. We are not God. We must know when to ask for help and take it.Take the meds if you need to. BUT as directed!..... Give your meds to a sober friend or a trusted family member. Surround yourself w/ those in a recovery problem. My doctor put me on neurontin. It's nonnarcotic and non habit forming. Our hopes were that with rest and this med that my ruptured disc resting on my spinal column would relax. I'd like to tell you it's working and I have seen a difference but not good enough. I've made the decision to just go ahead an let him take out the disc. I'm am scard but I am sure with the help of my program, my doctor and God. I will make it thru this. I will be praying for you and wish you all the best and a day painfree.
Take care,
Lisa
