Troubling medical condition/any advice? (Addiction & Recovery board)

15th June 2006
I have been taking subutex for a little less then a year now. I take two tablets of 2mg once a day. About a week ago I noticed that I had peripheral edema in both legs (Swelling due to fluid retention). My doctor was not in town and when I called his office to tell the nurse what was going on she told me to immediately get to an ER. Well I raced to the ER. Evidently swelling in both legs from the knees down can indicate congestive heart failure. Well I was checked out and they found nothing wrong with me. My heart was good, kidneys, liver. The ER doctor asked me what kind of medication that I was on and I told him that I take subutex and Neurontin. His palm pilot stated that one of the side effects of Neurontin was peripheral edema and to stop taking it. Which I did. It has been a week now and the swelling is still there. It has not gotten worse but not any better.

My question is this has anyone on here ever heard of Subutex causing this kind of side effect? I am following up with my own doctor Monday. Just curious. Anyone out there ever experienced this side effect or condition?

Andrew
