High BP is a funny thing. I was 32 when I went BP meds. Like you, my BP was 160/110 but I ate healthy... boneless skinless chicken breasts, my BMI was normal, and I was active.
My Doctor told me to go on the Meds because I was not going to live and eat like a saint the rest of my life... and in the meantime, my heart was working too hard.
Going on medication is not that bad. I have had great luck with Monopril over the last 16 years. Monopril is in a class of medications that are refered to as ACE inhibitors. I have not had an side effects from this medication.
Best of luck. :)
