28th May 2007
It's not werid to gain weight on a pill. What works for you may cause negative side effects on another. There are many brands of pills. Maybe you need a low dose pill.

Low dose pills are : Alesse, Aviane, Levlite, Loestrin 1/20, Mircette

Regular-dose pills are: Brevicon, Demulen, Desogen, Levlen, Levora, Loestrin, Lo/Ovral, Low-Ogestrel, Modicon, Necon 1/35, Nordette, Norethin, Norinyl 1+35, Ortho-Cept, Ortho-Cyclen, Ortho-Novum 1/35, Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo, Ovcon 35, Seasonale, Yasmin, Zovia

Phasic pills are: Cyclessa, Estrostep Fe, Jenest, Ortho-Novum 7/7/7, Ortho-Novum 10/11, Ortho-Tri-Cyclen, Ortho-Tri-Cyclen Lo, Tri-Levlen, Tri-Norinyl, Triphasil, Trivora

The high dose pill are: Demulen 1/50, Ogestrel, Ortho-Novum 1/50, Ovcon 50, Ovral

This is to FromSqueaky! Um I was on the generic for Ortho Tri-Cyclen and I gained weight but only a few pounds. I was thinking about getting on Yasmin. Do you think it would be a bad idea to get on that seeing as how it is a different type of pill than Ortho Tri-Cyclen? I mean for weight gain of course.

I also agree that birth control does contribute to weight gain. In reality the weight gain is mainly water weight, at least that is what I used to experience. In actuality there is no "magic" pill that will work the same for everyone. The certain type of progesterone that is in a pill is what causes different reactions when mixed with different body chemestries. I myself took Ortho-tri-cyclen and Ortho-lo with no problems at all except nausea. When I tried taking Loestrin 1/20, I had unbelievable bloating and hair loss. I felt awful until I switched pills again. The ortho pills have a different progestin than the Loestrin. I am now on Kariva (generic of Mircette) and have no problems whatsoever. Birth control is such a gamble until you find the right one for you.

If the progesterone is low then the progesterone in your body will be low. If it's to low you gain weight. It's fat that I have not water. There is nothing you can do to stop the weight gain if your progesterone is low. The pills that do work correctly with your body chemistry can make one gain water weight.Watching your salt intake does help with that.

Progesterone is a bad thing. I never knew so many bad things can happen if it was low. I need to get it up fast as I can cause I don't want PCOS to happen. I already have fibroids that grew in while on Loestrin FE 24. I had on ultrasound before I went on it and my uterus was all clean I just had cysts on my ovaries. Now I have 3 fibroids in my uterus that have grown from the lack of progesterone. The are close together so it almost looks like one solid one. I don't want those puppies growing together.

EDIT: I use to take Mircette. Oly problem I had were migraines.
