When I was anemic in the past (this is all new for me again too) I was told to take 325 mg of ferrous sulfate 3x a day as well so at your levels this is probably what you should be taking. I would hope the hemotologist would be retesting monthly or every few months to keep checking the numbers. As with any medication there are always possible side effects but your doctor feels that you have enough of a problem that the benifits outweigh the possible side effects. I would talk to your doctor about the nexium but I woudl think that stopping it at this point based on a possible side effect is probably worse on you than taking it.
Also although a couple of the flinstones a day for someone that is not that low or is now back within normal range is not a bad thing for someone at your levels it is probably not enough iron. The best thing to do is to try to do what the doctor has prescribed. The doctor is much more likely to listen to you if you first try what they have recommended vs not trying it at all. As one of the above posters said, FE can have bad results on your stomach such as bad constipation so you will want to work your way up to 3 a day and if you are feeling the effects on your stomach see if you can use some Miralax or something daily to offset it.
good luck!!
