bad anxiety and now pregnant (Anxiety board)

20th June 2008
Hi Babifairy,
I just gave birth to my son in May. I have anxiety/OCD. I too was afraid to come off my meds that I have been on for 15 years. I am currently on Luvox and Xanax. The Xanax is on a need be basis, but I take the max. of Luvox. After talking with my husband and doctors, I decided to stay on the Luvox and come down to 50 mg...which was a lot considering I was on 300 mg. I was ok, on the 50 mg. I had no obsessive thoughts...a few panic attacks, but other than that I felt good. It was after I gave birth via C section, and when I brought him home that my OCD/Anxiety hit me again. My baby was 5 weeks premature and was in the Special Care nursery for a few days. I brought my luvox to the hospital and statred increasing my Luvox back up to 300 mg after I gave birth....but when I brought him home and I was holding him one night that I started to be anxious and had intrusive thoughts.

It's been about 5 weeks now, since I had my son, and about 3 weeks since I've been back at 300 mg. I am getting better, but know that i have a few more weeks before my medicine completly kicks in. Hang in there...things will be ok. I was afraid of labour also, and in the end, had to have a c-section because i was leaking amniotic fluid. It's not that bad...if you plan on having an epidural, things will be go smoothly.

Talk with your dr. about staying on certain meds that you think you need during your pregnancy....I'm sure you'll be fine and things will go well, and by the time you know it you'll be holding your little bundle in your arms and feeling good....it gets better!! If you need to talk write back!! All the best
