Do kids ever grow out of ADHD? (ADD - Attention Deficit Disorder board)

21st October 2005
My daughter is 15, and we have been on all the different meds. Adderall, Concerta, Adderall & Straterra together, and even Medadate. The one we seem to keep going back to is the Adderall XR. She also takes 50mg. of Luvox per day, and 25mg of Trazdone @ night to go to sleep. I worry about all the meds, but it seems she has to have them. I think as their bodies change with puberty and such, the meds affect them differently. One day the 30mg of Adderall she is on seems to be fine, and the next day it doesn't seem to work as well. I dont think they ever grow out of it, but they seem to get more mature and just learn to deal with it better. My 15yr old has a very smart mouth, but is very sweet at times. Just this year, I have been able to tell that she is beginning to act more her age, and mature some. Our Dr. told us, that is doesn't necessarily go by the weight, that it is kind of like a diebetic. You have to take as much of the medicine that you need, to get the brain where it needs to be. But all doctors are different. I just worry about her ever being able to live in a home outside of ours. She doesnt ever remember to take her med without me telling her. But maybe that will change with time.
