ADHD & OCD 10 yr. old son- Out of Control (ADD - Attention Deficit Disorder board)

12th May 2004
I'm not for sure if I can be of any help my daughter is just Five years old and was diagnosed with ADHD and OCD when she was three, at first it was hard for me to beleive she had a problem, because she was so young. My child was attending a daycare center at the time in which she was kicked out because the teacher was afraid she was an endager to other children. I was called at work every day there was a different child she had hurt. I had to work so I decided to take the doctors advice and start medication she went through severeal different medications focalin, concerta, etc. Finally they put her on Ritalin 20mg it was the only on that seemed to have any affect on her after about six months she was up to taking two a day. I blamed myself forever, because I felt like an awful mother to me a three year old should not even know how to swallow a pill. And when she was about ready to turn five I heard about Strattera, it was non addictive, and very little side affects, with the research I did it seemed like it would be a whole lot better on my child than Ritilan so I talked to her Physician about giving it a try. So she agreed to let her try it. She also took the same actions after starting as your son, after a month it became to much for her teacher, and children didn't want to be around her. So when I voiced my conceren to the doctor she said sometimes when a child is on a stronger medication like Ritalin for a long period of time then they switch to something weaker like Strattera it is normal for it not to work as well. So we had to put her back on Ritalin. Now she takes Ritalin and Luvox in the morning, and Focalin in the evening. She still seems to struggle somewhat so that concerns me as she gets older she will become more aggressive if she continues to have some problems. When I had to go to school the other day for her Kindergarten registration they notified me my child would have to be put in Special Education classes, because she is dramatically behind based on children of her same age. So I have a lot of concerns and worries for her, I'm hoping that everything will just workout. So I wish you and your son the best.
