The good news: After being diagnosed with Type II in January of this year, my mother began taking Glyburide / Metformin. We also began a very structured diet resulting in her losing close to 100 pounds - her A1C's went from 9.?? to 4.7 as of this week. The doctor has now taken her off the Glyburide, because it seems like she will be able to control her diabetes through diet. And so far, so good...her bs readings are still around 100.
The bad news: She has been spilling protein into her urine and the doctor wants to increase her blood pressure meds (Lotrel) from 5/20 mg to 5/20 mg.
This is scaring me, because her bp is normally around 95/60 and I worry about it dropping her too low. The doctor insists it is necessary.
Does this sound right? I really trust this doctor, but it just doesn't seem correct. I know spilling protein is extremely dangerous over a period of time, but I worry about her blood pressure bottoming out.
