   allergy and coughing (Allergies board)

4th May 2002
I was on lotensin for high blood pressure and the doctor said that was what was making me cough. I have been off of it a week now but still coughing. It probably takes awhile to get out of your system, right? I hope it goes away. I would hate living like this for what life I have left. My co-workers will be moving me into the hall at work so they won't have to listen to me anymore. I was on allegra but it didn't do anything to help me.

To Kerrycat and poopedout:
Yes. lotensin is a blood pressure medicine that makes the patient cough. The cough can be too much for some people and medication needs to be changed.
(Side effect and Warning label right on the lotensin prescription paperwork deccribe the coughing possibilities, dizziness, fatigue, headache among other things. Check your labels. Go see your doctors. You don't need to suffer needlessly.
I have been on Lotensin for a year and a half for blood pressure, yes it does cause coughing. Usually the coughing lasts only a few days to a week depending on the person at the start of the treatment. Each person is different. The medication paperwork explains that as a possibility. I hope your doctor found another more successful blood pressure medicine there are many choices in blood pressure meds.
