red streaks up arm after fingernail loss/fracture (General Health board)

19th May 2004
Hi all. Monday morning I had to go to the ER because of a half torn thumbnail and they decided the best thing to do would be to numb it and remove the whole nail. Later that day I fell and hurt the same thumb....BAD DAY!!.... I went to an urgent care center and they did xrays and said it was a fracture, wrapped it up, and told me to follow up with a plastic surgeon. The last part confused me slightly but my hand was feeling better and the lortab from the fingernail incident was wearing off and I wanted to go home. Yesterday I went to see my Orthopedic doctor and he said it wasn't fractured but didn't take any xrays or anything. I asked him about possible torn ligaments and he said he didn't think so. Well my thumb and the whole side of my left hand is 3x it's normal size and extremely painful. This morning I woke up and noticed red streaks around the veins in my wrists and running up the underside of my forearm. I remember all the warnings about watching out for this in the ER over my 24 years....I've been in the ER many times....but can't remember what it's called. I called the Ortho doc back and told them what was going on and that the swelling was getting worse and he said to come in on Friday. It might not be a big deal to them but it's freaking me out. Anyone know what might be causing these streaks and the MAJOR swelling??

Thanks,
Ashley
