Pain Centers in the US (Pain Management board)

8th May 2004
I sure wouldn't go to the last one I went to. The doctor told me if my pain was a 9 on Duragesic 50mcg and Lortab for breakthrough, that I might as well come off the meds because my pain couldn't get much worse.??? And to think I thought he was supposed to help me!! When I told my surgeon this he said did you tell him I was going to operate on your back? I said yes and he said well if you could come off all pain meds I wouldn't need to operate on you. Needless to say, my surgeon is still rx'ing my pain meds. I don't know how much longer he is going to do this. I am 3 months out from surgery. I just got denied for disability, so I can't afford to go to a PM because I don't have the money for the co-pay. I hope my surgeon will understand this. I don't know if there is some kind of law that says he can only rx pain meds for a certain amount of time.

The PM clinic I went to before this experience didn't believe in breakthrough meds. But, boy oh boy did they believe in injections. I got injections every 2 to 3 weeks for about 5 months. Then when my insurance company wouldn't pay for IDET, they basically forgot about me. I just don't have any luck when it comes to pain management. I am so scared they are going to think I'm a druggy or something that I don't ask for increases in my meds. I just suffer constantly. I actually got the nerve up to tell the PA at this pain management center that I felt bad about taking narcotics, that I had family members that were against narcotics. She told me to ignore them, that I had a condition that required narcotics and I wouldn't stop taking my asthma meds so why would I consider stopping my narcotics. Unfortunately, when insurance said no to IDET, she didn't seem to care too much about me anymore either. Oh well... my life story.

Rural VA sucks for pain management options. I wish I could stand the 3 hr ride to Portsmouth. They are actually in my network, just too far to drive. I guess I'm stuck with suffering.

I hope you guys can find a good pain management center near you. Something really needs to be done to further the chronic pain patients cause.

God Bless,
Sherry
