it's too bad, because both viox and celebrex were special cox 2 inhibitors, unlike other cox 2 they do not cause problems to other organs, such as liver or kidneys. it is unfortunate that prolonged use of either had other, even worse affects to other organs, such as circulatory system and heart.. That leaves very few extremly effective drugs for combatting pain on the nsaid side. Before my surgery, i was taking lodine (etodolac) and found it to be extremely good. I took viox for a while last year, and while it did help, it didn't help enough for me to continue taking it. with that being said, my wife, a veterinarian, came up with a pretty good point. Almost all drugs have side effects, and in most cases the better the drug, the worse the possible side effects. I thought she brought up a pretty good point. It is amazing that these days drugs get pulled so readily while old favorites such as aspirin and tylenol have been proven to do damage to the body when overused.
How many of you have thought twice about taking more then 2000mg of tylenol (acetametiphan) a day? taking 2 tablets of percocet/tylenol 3/4 or other drugs that contain acet. every 4-6 hours adds up.
I feel for anyone that has suffered loss due to poor r&d or incorrect dosage, and hope that pfizer pulls celebrex to respect the public much like Merck did with vioxx. But er have to look at the big picture and realize that drugs are drugs because they affect or alter the body and it's functions. We only get one body this time around and we need to take care of it.
