what are the best/most favored BC Pills? (Birth Control board)

2nd July 2004
I've been on Triphasil, Lo-Ovral, Ortho Tri Cy, Ortho Tri Lo, Yasmin and Estrostep FE. I had problems with all of them, especially Yasmin. The biggest problem -- no sex drive and moody all the time. I have been on Seasonale for 3 months now and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE it. My sex drive is back and I feel like my old self again -- I have energy, my moods are great, no weight gain, plus you only get your period 4 times per year. I highly recommend Seasonale. Good luck.

I was on Depo for 2 1/2 years. Because they came out with a new guideline in November 2004 (should only be on it for 2 yrs) I had to go off it. I loved the Depo. It was so convienient, and pretty cheap too. I gained about 5 lbs, but I needed the extra weight. When I went to my gyno two weeks ago, I asked her to put me on the pill that lets you have 4 periods a year (I forgot which brand name, but now remember--Seasonale). She put me on Lo-Ovral and told me to take the 21 active pills from the first two packs, and then on the third to take them all. I have been taking them for two weeks, but realized it didnt add up. (For three packs, it would be 10 weeks of pills, not 12, and I would get 5 periods a year). I have since contacted the pharmaceutical company to ask about the safety of that b/c I read somewhere that Seasonale was the only one approved by the FDA for that use. My doctor's office is closed for a few days, so I'm not sure what they have to say about all this. Anyone have any similar experiences??

I took Ortho cept for a while 2 years ago and it messed with my moods, depression, anxiety, YUCK. So I decided to have my tubes tied. After that my periods got heavy and very painful so guess what? I am back on the pill. I take Lo-Ovral and like it. My cramps and spotting are gone and my mood is actually better. I also have endometriosis. It has helped it also, my libido is still there! Woohoo, but I also use estrogen and testosterone cream a couple times of week and I swear it helps increase the libido.

lylone, can I ask how old your are? I am 43. I was actually considering Alesse but I was afraid it was too low to control my symptoms which are about the same as yours(I have endometriosis). I would like a lower estrogen pill. I am currently taking lo-ovral and it has 30 mcg, it is working fine except I have gained about 10 lbs and have a little melaomsa (sp?),I guess none of them are perfect!
