Don't stress Dove, those 2 obviously don't know a thing about it. They have never dealt with someone who is psychotic. I know exactly how you feel, and you are right, you did all you could for your brother. Don't let their ignorance get to you. I hope your brother continues to do well, I know what a struggle it is, and what it can do to a family. My heart goes out to you.
My brightest wishes to you as well. I hope your brother is doing peachy. You did do all you could for him.
I was diagnosed with bi-polar & I myself have been completely out of my mind. Suicidal, homicidal, self-mutilating, paranoia, etc. all came with the turf. I was never committed. My episodes lasted only a few hours & they weren't bad enough to have me "hospitalized", just restrained & sometimes smacked. I do occasionally get frustrated now & I'll start to scream & throw things.
I kind of wish someone did tests while I still had insurance. I have other problems & my family Dr. says it looks like a hormone inballance is the culprit. It's mimicking mental disorders because it's a malfunctioning part of the brain that's likely causing the hormone problems. Now my issue is getting the tests done. (I'm looking at at least $500k just to diagnose the actual problem)
Anyway, my point is: What if the tests come back & show it's all hormonal? I've been on Lithium & Prozac for nothing then? Did the Psych. jump to conclusions?
You have to wonder if some of these people get their licence out of their Cracker Jacks or if they just want more money. I'm not knocking all doctors, not by any means. I"m just saying, you really have to do your homework & research things.
PS. This board was getting pretty heated as I skimmed through here!! Wow!
