I am currently taking 10 mg of cortef 2 1/2 x a day and .1 of Florenef 1x daily and .2 mg of Levoxyl 1x daily for 5 days.

My biggest issue is my doctor has not been very helpful in giving info for this diease. My dad being the concerned father that he is was the one that told me to ask my endo if I had Adissons.My doctor gives me prepscriptions and tells me to take them that's all and I really hate that. About a couple of weeks after I started to take the cortef I started to gain weight and now my doctor Is saying (since I've put on about 35 lbs.)that if I don't lose weight I'm working my way to becoming a diabetic. He has been watching my insulin levels closely (so he says). Is there any other drugs that you can take that does not have the weight gain side effect?

Beth, I believe you need a new doc. Addisons can be complicated & we need as much information as we can get. The cortef will cause hunger so it could be helping with weight gain or you are on too much cortef (do not try to reduce the dose without docs approval) or your thyroid as Chris mentioned. I was on too much for over 3 years & finally learned from others my weight gain may be from too much replacement. I tapered myself by 2.5mg every couple weeks or so to 20mg from 30mg. I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU DO THIS!!! I have not lost the weight, but have not been real careful about avoiding carbs & sugar as I should be.

Endos don't seem to be full of information for us. My belief is they only know what is in the book, if that & it's not real life so how can they help us with the daily stuff. Searching the internet & finding all the forums so you can talk to lots of people is very helpful. :wave: Wanda
