Serious Health Concern (Bowel Disorders board)

12th November 2007
This is a serious health concern of mine. If you have valid advice, please post or respond accordingly. Thanks in advance!

---

Over the last 20 years, this has happened to me on at least 2 dozen occasions and I have never sought any type of medical opinion or help because it's somewhat embarrassing.

Sometimes when I am trying to use the bathroom, I find myself extremely constipated - to the point where it is very uncomfortable and somewhat painful (5/10 on the pain scale). After I start to have a bowel movement, it's really rank, putrid, and not normal in color or smell. I immediately experience allergic type reactions. My nose starts to run, my throat starts to become itchy and I experience a slight athsma attack, and my eyes swell up as though I have been stung or bit by something. Upon finishing my business on the toilet, I observe that it is a very dark green - seaweed type color. There is nothing solid and it's very disturbing to examine.

After cleaning up thoroughly, I immediately take two or three anti-histamine tablets (Benydryl) and have to prepare a hot beverage to sooth my throat. My nose and throat are soon cleared up about 30 minutes after taking the anti-histamine tablets, however my eyes look like Rocky Balboa for up to 3 days after the initial reaction.

My medical history is as follows:
I used to have athsma as a child but have not had any severe attacks for the last 25 years. No medication or inhaler needed.
I have a hypo-thyroid and take 200mcg of Levothroid per day.
No allergies to medications or foods.

I'm very concerned and somewhat scared that something serious is wrong with me. This is not only very embarrassing for me, but it's also something I'm witholding from my doctor until I find out more information about this. Not only this, but I have three family members that work for my doctor and they don't know about this condition.

If anyone has any legitimate advice, link, or experience with this, please post it here or email me.

Although it happens on average - once a year - it's very scary when it does occur.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.
