Diabetes, insulin shots with hypothyroidism (Diabetes board)

1st August 2006
Quote from Lady50:
I am asking this for my sister as she is not feeling well. She has diabetes and takes the insulin shots. Do you know if too much insulin can cause suppression of the circulating thyroid hormones Ft4 and Ft3?

She seemed to be feeling really good until upping the dose of her insulin, and now she is having hypo symptoms.

Just wondered if any of you know anything about this. I have searched and searched.

Thanks

My mom takes levothroid for her thyroid problems. She said she can tell when she is hypo bcuz she becomes sluggish and tired. My mom is also diabetic. I can't said for sure bcuz he doctors never check her t3 or t4, just the tsh. She is getting a new dr. this month and I am going to ask them to check the t
and t4. Since the thyroid regulates a lot of the body hormones, I don't see why it would not also regulate the glucose. I know for sure the thyroid can affect blood pressure.

I try to do a search and get back to you if I find something.
