Does an "Insulin Resistance" diet improve blood pressure? (High & Low Blood Pressure board)

19th January 2005
Cass and beer, yes it was a hard road. I really gained all my weight back in 2001 when i had graves disease and had to have rai. Im on levothroid for life. I just stiuck to my high fiber low fat meals. Basically, i ate the same food every day (prepared differently) and cut all rice, white potatoes and sugar out of my diet. I also used light, sugar free or nonfat dairy products.

Since everybody in my family eats whatever, i just stopped cooking for them and only prepared meals for myself. Now my husb. eats like i have to. This is not a diet it is my life.

yes, i had to buy new clothes. I still have to lose about 20 or 30 more lbs. I really gained alot of weight back in 2001. I went from 140lbs to 250lbs. I was put on meds that definitely caused weight gain, like avandia. Once i started a serious walking regimen and a strict eating pattern, i started losing.

Beer, i tried the 6 small meals at the advice of my dietician. It does work wonders.I also did like Cass and split my meals. For example, instead of eating my pear and light n fit yogurt iwould wait two hrs after eating my pb sandwich and green tea for lunch.

My bp today was 141/72 and that is a great improvement for me. I havent seen 140 in over three or four months. Maybe the norvasc is working.
