I just got over a case of pneumonia, myself. I'm 34 and not all that active. The doc put me on Levaquin and that seemed to help. I really thought I was going to die because of how bad I felt, but I didn't, so I'm glad.
My grandmother, who was 89 at the time. had an even more severe case of pneumonia than I did and she lived through it. She got it again about 5 months later and lived through that also. And she has all kinds of heart disease and other stuff wrong with her. So if my 89 year old grandma (who by the way is now 91 going on 92) can live through pneumonia with all of what's wrong with her, then your mom, who is way more healthy and active, should have no problems recovering.
The only thing is, she may notice that the cough lingers for about a month or so after she is better. That's the same thing with bronchitis. She'll feel a lot better but the cough will stick around for a bit. That's totally normal.
