I have been fighting an MRSA infection since August of 2004. I have seen countless doctors of all types. I have specific areas that the boils like to return to, i.e my ears for one. Both of my ear canals have been lanced open twice now, my arm pit has been lanced open once. I have been on every anitbiotic imaginable, including vancomysin. They did nothing! The latest antibiotic that I was on was levaquin. I have not had a reinfection since being off the levaquin; however, I now have a swollen lymph node in my neck (cerebral lymph node). My doctor says that it's nothing to worry about, like everything else with this infection. Easy for him to say! One thing though that he did recommend to me, and I will recommend to all of you, is to go to Walgreens, CVS, or some Pharmacy and buy "Hibiclens". It's an antimicrobial soap. It costs between 6-10 dollars a bottle (and it goes fast). Wash your body with the Hibiclens at least once a day for at least 3-6 months. The soap contains clorhexadine, which is what the doctors use in the hospitals to wash their hands after working with infected people. You need to get the bacteria off of your skin, or you will keep reinfecting yourself. Also, if you're not on antibiotics, push eating yogurt! Lots of yogurt! And go to the Pharmacy and purchase live probiotic bacteria. It's over-the-counter, but you want to make sure you get 'live' bacteria. This will only help you if you're not on antibiotics, otherwise the antibiotics will kill the probiotic (good bacteria) you're trying to put back into your gut. Anitbiotics rid our bodies of the good bacteria in our guts, so we need to replace these bacteria. I take 2 pills a day, one in the morning and one at night. I will continue to take them for at least 3-6 months. I hope all of this helps you, but if anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. I need to find a doctor who knows what they are talking about when it comes to this infection and I would like to get more information on the swollen lymph node in my neck. It's strange because right now I have no other symptoms of the infection. However, all the research I have done concludes that swollen lymph nodes are a sign of an underlying infection. Any comments or questions are welcome. Thank you for your time in advance!
