The Framingham Risk assessment is just a tool that factors such thing as your age, ldl cholesterol, blood pressure, whether you smoke, etc. . . and gives you a % threat of Coronary Heart Disease for 10 years. [[COLOR="Red"]removed] What you calculated is your ratio. Yours is pretty good but you're after 3.5. With your family history, I wouldn't put this decision on the backburner.
A statin is a class of drugs used to lower your bad cholesterol (ldl and total) and raise your good cholesterol (hdl). Some names of statins are crestor, zocor, lipitor, lescol. Vytorin has a statin component (zocor) and a non-statin component (zetia).Statins work well but come with serious side effects such as muscle and liver damage. Therefore, the less statin that you can take and reach your target numbers, the better off you are going to be in the long run (especially at our age).
