I find it funny you posted this today.
I was just getting on-line to discuss a simliar issue.
I am taking 50 units of Lantus at night before bed and my numbers are about 160-180 when waking - but the keep rising until about lunch time.
I think the lantus may be keeping me artifically elevated in the morning and the novolog before meals is helping me drop down.
I am wondering if I am taking too much insulin or not even close to enough
or the wrong insulin for me???
