anyone get head aches with insulin? (Diabetes board)

24th March 2008
I notice when I take my insulin - I often get head aches.
anyone else get these?
I take novalog (15 units) before meals and lantus (50 units) at bed times.
still do not have the right combinations - my morning numbers are still in the 200's
about 6 -7 hours after taking the Lantus - my numbers are 170-180ish then it keeps rising until about 11-12 hours after taking lantus - even if I eat and take Novalog before my morning meal.

afternoon and evening - is often pretty good - 100-150 range.
anyway - I often find I get a head ache after taking insulin.

any thoughts or ideas?

I am on 1 unit of Novolog per 7 carbs at meal time and take 8 units of Lantus in the evening and 8 units in the morning. I used to take 1 unit of Novolog per 15 carbs at meal times and 20 units of Lantus in the evening. The only time I ever had a headache was after a low of 38 and even then it was not a painful headache, just a little constant ache like I'd been in an extremely bright place for too long. You should inform your endocrinologist and/or doctor about any symtoms you may have.

I've been a diabetic for 31 years... Have had the same headache (constant) for the past few years after switching from NPH and Regular to Humalog and Lantus, and of course if my blood sugars go way up or way down.... I think there is a connection with the headaches and insulin but no one in the pharmacidical industry would dare admit it....

I take 50 units of humalog and 200 of lantus daily and have never had a headache from them. I do get a bad headace if I am late with my blood pressure med. Lynne:angel:
