I just started Byetta. After hearing all the horror stories about being nauseous all the time, I told my doctor that I must have something for the nausea. He prescribed a drug called Reglan and it is WONDERFUL!!! I've had no nausea at all and no unpleasant side-effects. My husband has been on Byetta for 3 weeks now and is constantly nauseous. His doctor didn't give him Reglan (yes, we have different doctors!!), but he's going to get it.

I mainly switched to Byetta because of the weight-loss effect. I need to lose a lot of weight and many times that's key to controlling diabetes. I'm hopeful that I will experience the weight loss that so many people on Byetta have achieved.

I stopped my Lantus and humalog also. My glucose levels on Betta alone have improved greatly. Wish me luck!! I'll let everyone know how I do long term.

Mum is doing well so far with byetta. She has had a little nausea and some diarrhoea and also some insomnia but on the whole she is doing well, no more side-effects than when she started metformin.

With regard to the nausea and anti-emetic meds I'm glad you have found relief from the nausea but i'm not sure how mum would be on those as she is on so many other meds and they can also have side-effects and intereact with other meds and with warfarin we have to be so careful. Ginger is good for nausea but please do check its safe to eat as some foods do interact with meds, grapefruit for example is not advised if you are taking any of the statin drugs for high cholesterol.

Mum has also stopped lantus but is still on her amaryl tablet and metformin.
Her INR has dropped a bit so we have another hos visit wednesday for a check blood test.

The diabetes specialist nurses are a fantastic support and rang her yesterday to see how she is getting along. Her BS have reduced quite a lot which is great.

I wish you lots of luck hun, it can be hard to lose weight when your diabetic, mum has to lose weight also...
