what kind of doctor treats metabolic disorders? (Open to All Health Related Topics board)

9th April 2008
I think I may have a sort of metabolic disorder due to chronic hyperventilation syndrome, probably brought on by Klonopin withdrawal. It's been going on 2+ years now, and I'm at my wits' end. Regular doctors insist there's nothing wrong with me other than edema, but I found a page on chronic hyperventilation syndrome, and yes, that's me to a T. Part of it will be controlling my breathing (not breathing through the chest all the time, which I had been doing), but I'm thinking some of my mineral stores such as phosphorous may be off due to prolonged respiratory alkalosis. What type of doctor would I go to with this? I'm half inclined to just go to the emergency room though obviously it's not life threatening because I just don't know what type of doctor would treat this.
