MRI results have me wondering (Open to All Health Related Topics board)

31st August 2007
I just recently received the MRI results but I am having trouble understanding it,This is what it says: Sagital and axial T1-T2_weighted scans of the Lumbar spine obtained. There is degenerated disk diseas with desiccation and loss of T2 disk signal. Degenerative disk bulging is seen as well. The scans are extended superiorly through thethe T11 level. No definiite soft tissue disk herniation is seen. The most impressivedisk bulging is seen at L3-L4. degenerative change is also appreciated through the facet joints. I had gone to th ER in our town and was diagnose with sciatica, My left thigh medialand into groin is numb. They also injected kenalog down the sciatic nerve. It has been three weeks and the numbing is still there, Can you explain this to me?

Your discs have degenerated a bit. How important this is depends a little on how old you are - common as we age. Since they don't mention levels where the degeneration is or which facet joints, you can't be specific. One thing - if they based the sciatic injection on your symptoms they missed. The symptoms you describe do not suggest sciatica. The medial thigh and groin area are supplied by nerves other than the sciatic. Might want to clarify this with your doc.. Good Luck..
