I just read an article on the internet that an advocacy group has sent a petition to the FDA to ban all 3rd generation protestin-containing pills due to the fact that they have TWICE the risk of blood clots as the older pills already on the market for a longer time.
The pills in question include those made by Barr and Organon pharmaceuticals. Specifically listed in this article were Ortho-Cept, Reclipsen, Mircette, Velivet, Kariva, Apri-28, Desogen and any and all generics containing the progestin called desogestrel.
If you are on one of these pills, I would highly suggest you speak with your doctor about switching to a lower-protestin dose pill. I think it's very important to keep as informed as possible about these problems with hormonal BC and also question whether it's even worth it to you to keep taking something that you know is harmful for your health.
