Hi, not sure if I'll be much help but I felt the need to reply. My dad has the same type of cancer as yours. Our adventure started in July 2003. By the time he went through different identifying tests and doctors, it was determined that he was at Stage IV. He is 74 and otherwise healthy except for being overweight, which is kind of a blessing with the weight loss to be expected. First, he went through several rounds of Taxol/carboplatin every 3 weeks for a six hour infusion. This left him quite weak and hair loss, but the tumors did shrink. He had been coughing so so much before that. So he went through about 5 months of the chemo, then rested. He remained stable for a few months before things started growing again. The second round was with the pill Iressa. This left him covered with sores and elephant like skin. He was miserable and slept all of the time. It did not do him much good. After the side effects of the treatment, he decided to stay off treatment for a few months. He is now stronger and in much better spirits. He had a recent CT scan which show increased growth. He has opted to let nature take its course. His oncologist doesn't think any treatment would help anyway. So right now we're choosing quality of life over quantity. We have also contacted Hospice so we're ready for the future and he lives alone. The bottom line is there are no ablsolutes in this. You have to use your gut to guide you and you need to ask your oncologists for agencies to help. It's a hard road to travel but there are many people willing to help if you ask. Hope this helped some. Hang in there.
