   New Here (Cancer: Lung board)

2nd September 2003
My wife (who is to turn 30 this October!) was diagnosed with cancer in January. Although lung primary was not a 100% confirmed, most of the cancer was in the lungs with pleural fluid and small liver metasteses. She was treated as if it was stage 3B/4 lunc cancer: with carbol/taxol, and several second line chemo's, none of which worked. Then iressa, also doesn't seem to be working. I've been visting this board for a week and it's been very helpful. I have a question. She's suffering from severe SVC syndrome, which means that the tumor in her lymph nodes around the lung is pushing against the veins leading from the neck and head, which is causing a lot of pressure in the head, neck and chest area. She just started radiation for pain relief, but it's still very uncomfortable and painful and shortness of breath. Anything that you guys have found to help deal with this particular symptom--she's so young yet so weakened by the disease...
