Beth, I am in a similiar situation. My mom was also diagnosed with Stage IV NSCLC in June 2003. She is on a clinical trial using Iressa as a first line drug.
She isn't having too many side effects, but we'll find out what's up on her next scan in September.
I don't really know what to expect, I'm a nurse, but it doesn't help much right now. Wondering how long before she becomes symptomatic. So far only some SOB, but she also has emphysema and COPD so it's hard to know what to attribute to cancer.
Anyway,I wish I could provide some insight, but I just wanted you to know you're not alone.
