Tarceva - anyone hear of it? (Cancer: Lung board)

11th March 2005
My 81 yr old mom a non smoker with NSCLC stage IIIB has been on Tarceva for 2 months following one month of Iressa. Her CT 2 weeks ago showed shrinkage in her lung tumor and the liver mets some of the recent post chemo liver mets are no longer visible. She also had shrinkage in the loculated pleural effusion that has been present since her pleurodesis to prevent further recurrent effusions. She says she is feeling better then she has in a long time, is having no shortness of breath, not coughing, eating well and has become very active again. She does have a acne type rash on her face and body but it has been improving with acne meds, very dry skin is her biggest complaint. From what I have been reading being both a female and a nonsmoker she is in the group of NSCLC patients that respond best to Tarceva . If anyone has gone through the chemo or can not tolerate the chemo from what we have seen thus far Tarceva is worth the try and while it is not a cure it can give improved quality and hopefully quanity to to life. Good Luck!!!
