Pleurisy - help! (Lung & Respiratory Disorders board)

21st January 2005
Pleurisy, as you know, is inflammation of the lining of the lung(s). I've had it also. It can be caused from a stretching motion, someone grabbing you w/a hug, or an infection from a cold. It's usually treated with an anti inflammatory drug. Ibuprophen works well taken at 800 mgs. twice a day, however, this would have to be determined by your physician. I took Indocin, an RX prescribed by my Dr. I had to stop from some side effect & that's when I went on ibuprophen at 200 mgs. 4X a day. 800 mgs. must be prescribed by your Dr. (Even plain asprin will help, but DON'T mix any of these drugs). Aleve is a different compound than ibuprophen, however, I'm sure works well for you. I can't give you any help on how to prevent it, don't think your Dr. could either, it just shows up. I had it 4 times one year and it lasted each time for weeks. Hang in tough.
