pain on right side taking deep breath.help! (Lung & Respiratory Disorders board)

26th September 2004
Hi all,
Need advice, info. I am 33 yrs old female. For the past 2 1/2 mths I have been experiencing pain in my upper right side of my back and radiates to my shoulder. when I breath. Especially deep breaths. Went to family doctor, 6 wk ago, he started me with mobic (anti-flammatory med). Did not help. Then put me on Indocin and referred me to specialist. Had chest xray-normal. Had CT-normal. Bloodwork normal. Have never had this occur before. Both drs agree it is pleurisy but not sure why it is occuring.
Indocin makes me retain fluid and helps some but pain still returns. It is worse when I lay down. At first I had to use pillows to prop myself up b/c I had an emormous amt of pressure on my chest. The pain will radiate down my right arm at times and I don't know what to do. Just wait to see what terrible thing shows up. I don't have labored breathing but sometimes chest tightness.
I have gained 15-20 lbs and this makes me feel worse. What can I do? Will exercise make the condition worse? I feel so huge.
My hx includes I work in a chemical plant, do not smoke, don't exercise (but would like to start).
Please any information or thoughts you may have will be so much appreciated as I am at such a loss.
Thanks,
Miche
