headache for a month (Headaches board)

19th September 2004
I sometime have occipital neuralgia headaches, and they are just like that, unfortunately. Heat on the back of the neck helps, ice on the temple helps. Anti-inflammatories (like indocin, vioxx), muscle relaxers, no lifting anything heavy, nerve block injections, massage therapy (preferably medical massage) all seem to help and are what are prescribed for it. I sometimes wear those thermacare wraps on the back of my neck to get through the day when it's acting up. I could imagine that either one of those jobs would be extremely difficult with this type of headache. A headache specialist (neuro that specializes in headaches) should be able to help figure out what the problem is. CT and MRI won't show anything unless you actually have cervical problems that show up on an MRI of the neck, but most CT's are normal with migraines too. They are trying to rule out other things with these tests. Good luck and take care!
