Hello, All:
Long time no talk! Glad to see ya'll have kept up the thread. I'll do my best to catch up ;)
GBR - Lord had a much better game on Thursday, but it would be nice to see some running game that involved our I-backs! I'm still puzzled by his ability to make the difficult throw, while one-hopping the undefended 10-yard pass. Maybe it'll get better as time goes on? Had a great time in the Black Hills! I spent much of my childhood in Nemo (population 29), right between Rapid City and Deadwood. Many things have changed, but much of the timeless beauty has not. I strongly recommend a trip to those who can go.
Didn't go by way of Nebraska, rather I-29 to I-90 and across S.D. Not too picturesque in the East, but the Badlands were really cool. Maybe next trip we'll be able to catch Ft. Robinson (have heard great things about it!).
The one thing we didn't do was horseback ride. I've ridden hundreds of miles in the Hills, and really miss the peace and solitude. My horse had a really high shoulder and an uncomfortable trotting gate. If I rode a horse like him now, I'd need traction right after--without a doubt! :) Some friends of mine owned a couple of Clydesdales (sp?) which I rode occassionally--bareback, no less! It was like switching from a Ford Pinto to a Lincoln Continental. MUCH easier on the back! Hope it becomes easier for you. If not, riding at a walking pace is better than not riding at all. If your knees can take it, it may also be helpful to raise your stirrups a notch and raise off the saddle when trotting or loping (kind of like they do when riding English, but without posting). Assuming you ride Western Pleasure?
Sounds like the ACDF is the right move for you. Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this. Keep us posted.
How is your husband doing these days? I know ribs take a long time to heal themselves. Couple that with back injuries and I can only imagine how difficult it must be for him. How did the bone scan come out?
Dennis - Sounds like things are progressing well for you! Don't know that everything can be credited to the DRX, but it sounds to me like it hasn't hurt a bit. The wife and I burn a couple of cords of firewood each year ourselves. I remember my pre-injury days of cutting for 9-10 hours without a break. If I did that now, I'd be in bed for the next few weeks! Take your time and enjoy being able to sleep comfortably in whatever position you choose.
Sorry to hear about the Aggies and Goats. Hope that situation improves for you.
Kara - I was at the heaviest weight I've ever been at a couple of months ago. Since I know every extra pound hurts the back, I started the drastic low-carb (Atkins) diet. I was able to drop 15 pounds in about 2 weeks and around 22 total. I no longer count carbs, rather have adjusted my eating habits to cut out the things I shouldn't eat. I have some food allergies (Wheat, Corn, Oats, etc.) that make the diet even more sensible for me. Not everyone can do the diet--your doc should be able to give you advice on the subject. However, I feel as good as I've felt for a long time and was able to lose and keep weight off. BTW, my total cholesterol dropped, but my ratio improved a bunch (since HDL went up and LDL went down). Triglycerides also dropped in half. I still crave sweets and bread sometimes, but it was worth givng them up.
Was the Ultrasound able to give some relief? It always felt good to me when it was being done, but no long-term help.
Can't relate about shaving my legs :D but it sounds like scrubbing the bathroom was a little much. Hopefully it'll get better soon!
I've slept with pillows in just about every possible position--mostly without comfort. I hope you are able to find a position that works for you.
Guess I should mention I've been having some intense pain in my right hand and to a lesser extent, in my shoulders recently. We were able to rule out carpal tunnel and arthritis, but still don't know what's wrong. I've swithced from Mobic to Bextra, to Vioxx, and finally to Indocin to get relief. Am now able to sleep, but my hand is still very weak and fingertips are numb. Anyone have similar problems?
Take care all! It's good to be home.
Pat
