   9 week headache (Headaches board)

10th January 2004
Well we finally made it to a neurologist in Memphis (Semmes Murphey Clinic), weird experience, didn't understand much anything he said except that he does not believe this is a neuralgia, which I guess is a good thing if he's right; the prognoses are not good for Atypical Facial Pain, which is what we suspected. He examined the MRI films for quite a while and he said everything looks normal.

Another doctor at Urgent Care Clinic got our appointment moved up at the neurologist (from the 14th to the 8th) after prescribing Tegretol, the neurologist told my wife to stop taking that and prescribed Indocin, an old arthritis/gout drug. We found that unusual, but we are doing as he said.

He examined her left eye for a long time and said he did not see pressure on it, but he also did not make a diagnosis. He told us nothing of what it might be. He is either a genius or can't find his *** with both hands.

So far she seems to be experiencing less intense pain, was even able to lay her head down on a pillow for several hours last night, the first time in several months. Lying down has been impossible for her for several months now.

The neurologist said to double the dosage on Monday and to call him after a week of taking Indocin (Thursday). The drug has some very dangerous side effects (nausea, internal bleeding etc.), he told us to use Prilosec OTC in order to lessen the chance of nausea, so we are.
