Help! Day 7 & 8 and a migraine hit! (Addiction & Recovery board)

6th February 2006
I don't know what to do! The reason I started taking Lortab in the first place was for migraines. I can't take the regular migraine meds like Imitrex because of a heart condition. I've started on a couple of preventative meds, but they haven't kicked in yet, so I'm not sure what to do. The migraine started yesterday, and as usual got so bad I started throwing up, etc. so I had to have a shot of Nubain since I don't have the Lortab anymore. Then it came back today and I tried to keep it away with Tylenol, Advil and Tramadol, but I ended up throwing up again in severe pain and had to have another shot. Does that throw all my hard work down the drain? Do I have to go back to day 1? I've been feeling so good, the depression has left, no w/d's, and quite frankly, no desire to take the Lortab. I feel to clear headed and good to want to go down that path again. Any advice?

My mom is going through the same thing! She is 20 days off of opiates and has had a migraine for the last 2 days... She however is able to take Imitrex but even still she said has not kicked in as much as she would like. Don't give in to the Lortab... your body is going through many highs and lows trying to restore the natural endorphins in your brain that the painpills have ROBBED you off... I know it must be difficult but you can't live your life relying on the devil in the form of a pill... All will work out... You are in my thoughts... Does a cold compress help or just laying down in the dark? what about doing a search on the internet or something for migraine home remedies..e a migraine. "For easing migraines, ice usually works better than heat," says Dr. Solbach, "most likely because of its action as a vasoconstrictor--it shrinks blood vessels pressing on nerve endings." A resealable plastic bag full of ice, wrapped in a kitchen towel, works.
