What on earth could be wrong with me?! - Open to all wild speculation (Open to All Health Related Topics board)

16th July 2008
Greetings,

I have no idea if the boards here are intended for this purpose, but frustration with my health situation led me to post here and see if anyone (qualified or not :) ) would be interested in rendering an opinion on what may be wrong with me. So here goes.

1 year ago I suddenly developed aches in the quadricep area of my legs. It is in both legs and equal pain on both sides. I caught myself rubbing them all the time while driving, sitting in meetings, or on the couch...it felt as if I wasn't getting good circulation (that's the only way I can describe it...even though the problem is NOT circulatory). The pain is 24x7 and on a 1-10 scale, I would rate it a 3. Not enough to be debilitating, but enough to cause constant stress.

The next part may, or may not, be at all related.

One week ago, driving home from a vacation, I suddenly had a serious pain attack in my legs. I could barely walk, and I had to make my wife drive most of the trip back. It was outrageously painful, and I was certain we'd end up in the hospital. I took a ton of ibuprofen, and the pain became tolerable enough for us to make it home. The next day, I broke out in a rash from head to toe....more like hives I guess. It itched a little, but not horrible, but definitely covered me from head to toe. My body aches everywhere, and particularly in the quad area where I have been having so much pain for so long. Now the pain in my legs is a 8-9 out of 10. It has been almost a week, and I am enduring great pain everywhere, and my hands and feet are swollen, and I can still abrely get around.

Anyone have any clues as to what things a Dr. could look at?

I've been to 2 neurologists, a rheumatologist, orthopedics, etc. Lots of blood work...they seem to be stumped. I have not gone in this last week with these latest symptoms, not sure it is related, or just complicated by something entirely different.

I'd love some input...all questions are welcomed!

(shots in the dark) Occasionally, people get hives as a reaction to the body's distress when suffering severe pain. Or, you could be allergic to ibuprofen.

That doesn't answer the question of why your legs hurt. Is there anything that makes the pain better or worse? Rubbing, moving around, stretching your quadriceps, stretching your back?

I would definitely see the doctor soon, while suffering these new symptoms, might help them figure it out.

I just went to the Dr. yesterday...he also mentioned the possibility of ibuprofen reaction, but I take it all the time, have never had an issue, and only took a couple that day. That's not to say it couldn't be that....just ulikely. They put me on prednezone yesterday...going to see if that helps calm down the hives/rash and see if it effects the leg pain in anyway. They are calling me mystery man at the dr. office...that;s never good. They ran another set of bloodwork, will find out Friday if ther eis anything new...they figured this was the worst I have ever hurt while at the dr. office, so perhaps if it is in fact some sort of muscle disorder they can catch it. They've done lots of blood work before, but so far, nothing.

Rubbing my legs, massage or stretching doesn't seem to help much...it feels good, but doesn't improve my condition ...I keep telling my wife I am SURE it is helping :)
