I am having my wisdom teeth pulled next week and will have conscience sedation with halcion and laughing gas with novacaine.
The office is making me wait till the day of to watch the informative video and sign a release form. They told me it would gross me out to watch too early.
I am scared to do this. What if it hurts my nerve? Will I be nervous with the sedation, will I feel pain? Will it hurt when they pull it out? I hate needles, and the thought of them doing this just makes me cringe.
Yeah, still here. I am taking hydracodone for pain right now along with ibuprofen and penicillin to help fight a cyst behind one of them. One of my wisdom teeth they have to cut some gum and some bone to remove it. They are both out. Scared still. I hope the halcion and laughing gas really makes me trip balls here because I don't see any other way this is going to work....

Please help.
I am strongly recommending against wisdom tooth extraction unless you absolutely need it. This is because I had a rather severe complication.
Thank you all for your words of encouragement, and good luck to the one getting his pulled as well. I had another appointment yesterday and had a filling and a temporary crown with core buildup from a previous root canal. The only bad thing is I have to wait till early May to get my permanent, they are having a specialist make it in Texas. The receptionist forgot to tell the dentist that I didn't need to have my wisdom tooth filled (woops) and he did it but told her not to charge me for it, since it was his fault. I still have sensitivity to hot and cold on the fillings he did last week, and I think I am going to go back after I get my new insurance to get a root canal done on both.
Anyways, I had 35-40 mg of valium (can't remember) within 4 hours before the operation, and 3.75 mg of hydrocodone to top it off. I think it calmed me down for once, and the gas put me over the edge. I had to take off my undershirt and wear my short sleeve during the drilling, I was sweating. I wear an undershirt because I work at a meat packing plant that slices meats for Subway, Wal-mart, and Costco. I run the line that slices the subway roast beef :-)
Anyways, it's V-day minus 2 days. Friday is the big day. I hope that the halcion (triazolam) really works for me that day. Yesterday I kept taking more valium every 45 minutes until I began to actually feel something, and the 3.75 mg of hydrocodone helped me, too. I came home from the procedure and collapsed on the living room floor, it was funny :-) It was the gas that really did it, though :-)
Anyways, I am taking .175 mg of halcion (triazolam) before bedtime, and .250 mg of it before the procedure. My mom is also offering me some phenigren to help me not feel naseus or throw up, etc. I am contemplating taking it to accomodate the way my body reacts.:(

I am still nervous about all of this, but it has to happen. I am going to go to work today, get home at one in the morning, pop half of a halcion, and then in the morning around 8 take a whole one. I really hope this goes smoothly :-) I will post tomorrow after I'm wisdomless :-) God will protect me from nerve damage.
Yes, it's finally over! Eight years of neglect, done. No loss of feeling, they came out pretty easily. Now the doc has me taking the antibiotics again since they cut into my gums to prevent a spreading infection. Wow! I feel like my life has been restarted again!
For those of you that are going to get your wisdom teeth removed, I'd better go into detail of how it went down.
First off, I took .175 mg triazolam (halcion) before bed. Then I woke up early with my wife to hurry up and get ready, and so I would be tired. I stayed away from caffinated drinks. Then I took .25 mg of halcion an hour before the procedure with some phenegrin, to help with nasea.
When I got there, I sat back in the chair, I plugged my Ipod in my ears, and they put topical on my gums and the nitrous oxide nosepiece. After a while, they began injecting me with lidocaine. I took off my layers of clothing after they did this, I was getting hot. I did feel the pain of the needle injecting my gums much like we feel the pain from a shot in the arm. Once it was numb, it wasn't as bad.
Next, we made final adjustments to the strength of the nitrous oxide levels and then by that point I was sweating and feeling out there. I got a cold rag placed over my eyes and on my forehead to prevent me getting sick and so I couldn't see what they were doing.
I pretty much snoozed through the whole thing, but I was awake. Weird feeling. I didn't feel any pain, just tugging of my jaw.
It wasn't that bad at all. And the cyst wasn't there when they removed them. What a relief that was! I feel a lot better now, and I will probably be going to work tomorrow. My wisdom teeth had only partial bony and gum impaction. I must say, I feel much better now with them out of my mouth!

Thanks to all of you who replied to my post with advice, it was much appreciated!
Well, life certainly changes for the better after you face one of your worst fears and it turns out to be not that bad after all :-)
Last Friday I had my wisdom teeth pulled under conscience sedation using halcion, laughing gas, and novacaine. I was prescribed hydrocodone, ibuprofen, and penicillin for the infection and pain. I have since then refilled all of the post op medication. I don't believe there is a post op visit ever mentioned.
Anyways, yesterday my temporary crown fell off and I had to go in this morning to my general dentist to have it put back on. The lab is finishing up my permanent crown and it will arrive in a week. To make a long story short, they had to cut the sutures and rinse out compacted food in the holes where my wisdom teeth were. She said it was really close to becoming a major infection. She taught me how to rinse out the holes with saline or salt water with a specially designed plastic syringe that works like a charm after every time I eat, so food doesn't get stuck in the holes. She gave me the plastic syringe and enough good advice to get me through this thing without a major infection.
And that's where I am at right now :-) I am still on pain meds 24/7 and penicillin. I have to just to bare the pain.
