Need help on med question (Diabetes board)

30th July 2004
JTU, IMO your GP should NOT have put you on a thiazide for BP. He should have known that this would effect you. There are plenty of other medications that do not raise your blood glucose levels, but thiazides are known to. Here are common ones that do:

Bumex - bumetanide
Demadex - torsemide
Diuril - chlorothiazide
HydroDIURIL - hydrochlorothiazide
Esidrix - hydrochlorothiazide
Diamox - acetazolamide
Edecrin - ethacrynic acid
Hygroton - chlorthalidone
Lasix - furosemide
Myrosemide - furosemide

How long have you been on it? My recommendation is that from this point forward, your Endo should approve ALL meds you take - and ask if he recommends a different type of BP med. This is a perfect excample of why GPs should not be relied on for diabetes.

Ace Inhibitors like lisinipril are quite effective in reducing BP without effecting your glucose levels. This may be an appropriate alternative for you.

Just curious, did you notice any changes in your home bg tests?
