When Is Florinef Needed (Addison's Disease board)

22nd May 2008
Chris,
The cardiologist I took my son to said don't bother with the tilt table test. He said it wasn't reliable. His advice at the time was to take my son to an endocronologist. As it turned out he had the crisis after having the occpital nerve block for the headahes then they did the ACTH stim test then we got into a endo in 2 days. We never had a chance to get the tilt table test done. The occipital nerve block never helped my son. It only made the headaches worse but I think that was because his adrenals were going downhill fast after the first nerve block. He was getting more nauseous until he couldn't eat and lost 18 pounds. I knew he might not make it if they didn't come up with something soon. He was started out on a high dose of cortef. Now the nausea is under control and overall he is better but still has headaches. He's on the maintenance dose of cortef now. I'm hoping his headaches will get better on the Florinef. Thank you for your prayers. I'll pray for your son. Has he ever been tested for AI? It could be inherited- well not the disease itself but the chance of having an adrenal problem. My mother also has AI. That is how I was able to convince the doctors to do the test.
Pam
