I could have written the original post!!! I dip my movie lovers popcorn in to kosher salt!! Yummy! I crave salt as well. Even with the meds. I am taking 0.1 florinef, and it really didn't help! Oh well! I enjoy eating salt! It's kinda like smoking (which I do not smoke), I get pleasure out of it!! I am always looking at labels to see if it is high in sodium. So funny! I feel sorry for those people out there that have to watch their sodium intake.
I also do not like drinking soda. I never have. I think that is strange that we are no pop drinkers! I haven't tried V8 in years, and didn't like it then. I might have to try it now as an adult. The last time I had my cholesterol checked, everything was low. My BP is always low. Before being diagnosed, I would get dizzy & almost blackout b/c my BP was so low. But it has gotten much better with my "drugs!"
sherrylynn65, wow! You live in Ohio too! I live in Columbus. Who do you see for your endo? I really like mine. I go to Ohio State Medical Center, they are wonderful over there. They have really gone the extra mile for me. When I was diagnosed, my doctor in the hospital really took the time and explained our illness to me & my husband very well.

One way I can tell my salt is too low is when my heart pounds. I take salt and then my heart rate drops. My blood pressure stays pretty low so I take at least 2 grams of salt, plus salting my food.
Has anyone else experienced heart pounding? and in what circumstances? i have starting noticing it after/during particularly strenuous days, and if it's because of a lack of salt it would make sense. ( i take florinef too)

My heart does some pounding too, and it is when I am at my feeling the most icky. When it started happening a few years ago I just thought it was my heart murmur (sound familuar???) but now finding out differently! Have you had your sodium levels tested? It is dangerous for us if they get too low. Lowest my sodium has been (or measured at) is 125 and it was not fun at all. Muscle cramps,,could not think and felt like I could puke everywhere. Landed me right in the ER. Be careful and maybe have that sodium level checked.

Hi Neighbor!
Dang,,,we could car pool and share a bag of popcorn! Whooo hooo. LOL. I live in Delaware. My doc is sending me to an endo. at Riverside. Orig. was going to send me to OSU but being a little country girl I am a bit nervous of driving downtown. But believe me,,,if I don't get help from this endo,,,off I am to OSU. Better to face the fear and live!
I am being looked at for being some kinda "hyper..." and actually after being told for past few years that I had "fibro" I am the one who brought this adrenal thing to doc's attn. after again landing in the ER with scary for no reason blood readings (sodium being down to 125 and a few other odd things). I went to the doc the next week and told him my suspicion's and he took off with the idea which he then ordered a bit more extensive blood work. Ta Da,,they were odd! All this after a bone scan indicated osteopina (or however it is spelled) and at 42 that is odd (moderately severe). I ain't crazy after all! Whooo hoooo,,,just odd! ;)
We should start a meeting around here. Is that allowed on here? I am new on here so forgive me if I break a rule.
going to the ER with low sodium is what started me on a 2 month journey to being diagnosed with addisons! even though i'm medicated it still happens occasionally for about 30 seconds or so- i'll try the salt in addition to florinef, since i also really like the taste.

Ok,,now I have it,,,how low was your sodium may I ask?
Usually if you have brown spots - that is called hyperpigmentation. I have that. I have a really high level of ACTH. Mine is over 1000. That is because my pit tumor is still there and after my adrenals were removed, the pit tumor got very "happy" or maybe that is unhappy and started to pump it out. If the tumor gets big, it is called Nelson's syndrome. People with addison's get the hyperpigmentation too and also will find themselves tan as well.
So you can have salt and have a built in tan! Watch when the lab takes your ACTH. It has to be in a lavender tube, at 8am , fasting, and spun immediately and then frozen to be accurate. If the sample is left in the tube too long at room temp, the ACTH degrades and your result will be lower than it really is! Some labs are good but I have to scream at mine! Good labs start with a chilled tube. Renin, another adrenal test, is just as fussy if not more so. That test is necessary for judging how much florinef you need. Hard when the labs constantly mess up the tests.

interesting! of course, that means you have to keep your eyes open when your blood is being taken. the labs haven't found some kind of shortcut for this yet ?
