Tapering down on Butalbital (Addiction & Recovery board)

26th November 2005
Hey Twang,
I rarely post anymore but the butalbital caught my eye. I got off of it about 4 years ago and I know what you are going through. It was tough! I took them for migraine as well and just decided to quit c/t at first without telling anyone. I felt like I was going crazy besides being so physically sick. I went 4 days and was no better on the 4th day than the 1st. I finally went to my doctor and fessed up. He gave me low dose Xanax which cut down my horrible anxiety. (Just enough to get through it). I tapered 10% every three days and it was still pretty awful. My husband had to hold them for me or else I would have caved just to get a moment's relief. I worked every day and forced myself to keep up my schedule with my kids and my responsibilities even though I would get alone and scream my lungs out. You can make it through it by tapering slowly. C/T from barbituates can cause seizures and I think I came very close to that in those stupid 4 days of trying to hide. I still have to have pain relief for my migraines. There is no shame in that, but I will NEVER touch fiorinal or fioricet again! You can get off too, my friend. My prayers are with you. Star
